Combined Course CODE: GEN 2

The Combined Course is designed to provide a thorough knowledge of general English combined with a focus on particular areas of interest or learning weakness for the individual student. Students attend the Intensive Course in the mornings and have five hours’ individual tuition per week in the afternoons. Students can decide with their teacher which area of specific interest they want to concentrate on in the individual lessons. The timetable is flexible and may be agreed with the teacher to allow some free afternoons. [+]

Tuition Hours 20 x 60 minute group lessons = 20 hours’ group tuition per week + 5 x 60 minute individual lessons = 5 hours’ individual tuition perweek. Levels All levels are available from beginner* to advanced. * Beginner’s courses are held on fixed dates. Minimum Course Duration Two weeks Age Group The Combined Course is designed for students aged 17+ Average Number of Students per class 8-10 per class (depending on the time of year) Maximum class size 14 Testing and Placement Students are given an oral and written test on the first day of their course and placed in a class appropriate to their level of English. Students’ progress is monitored on an ongoing basis and their class level is adjusted accordingly. Examinations Students attending a Combined Course can prepare for the following examinations: University of Cambridge (PET, FCE, Advanced & Proficiency), TIE Examination, TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS and BEC 1/2/3. It is also possible to prepare for other examinations on request. All examinations are subject to availability and payment of the appropriate fee. Textbooks We use the most up-to date textbooks and teaching materials. Textbooks are not included in the course fee. Students can purchase textbooks from the school or from recommended bookstores in the city centre. Textbooks cost approximately €35. The Examination Course is designed to prepare students for one of the following examinations: Cambridge Preliminary English Test, Cambridge First Certificate, Cambridge Advanced Certificate and Certificate of Proficiency, or the IELTS examination. Students wishing to do an examination should start their Cambridge preparation course 12 weeks prior to the examination date and their IELTS course 4 weeks prior to the examination date. [+]

The Intensive Plus Business Course offers 26 hours of tuition weekly. This course is aimed at students with either an academic or practical business background who wish to supplement their General English course in the mornings with Business English in the afternoons. Modules covered in the afternoon business lessons can include: Presentations, Sales and Marketing, The Language of Business Meetings, Report Writing, E-mail and telephone communication and The Language of Negotiations. Course content varies according to the changing needs of the group. [+]

The Intensive Plus course is designed for students who wish to supplement their General English Course with extra conversation classes in small groups in the afternoons. The focus in the afternoon classes is on improving fluency skills. The morning lessons are the same as those offered in the Intensive Course. In addition there are six hours of small-group conversation classes over three afternoons (2 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) at three levels starting at Pre-Intermediate. Afternooon classes have a maximum of 8 participants. Tuition Hours 20 x 60 minute group lessons each week in the mornings 6 x 60 minute small-group conversation classes in the afternoons. Levels A minimum language level of pre-intermediate is required. The afternoon classes are offered at three levels starting at Pre-Intermediate.
