Sejarah Kami

Kami telah memimpin sejak 1856

Somerset College memulakan hidup pada tahun 1856 sebagai Sekolah Seni dan Sains, sebelum berpindah ke Corporation Street, Taunton, sebagai Sekolah Seni pada awal abad ini. Ia bukan bagaimanapun, sehingga awal 1970-an bahawa Sekolah Seni digabungkan dengan Pusat Pengajian Teknologi dan dipindahkan ke tapak Wellington Road.

Our courses equip you with exactly what’s required to make a key contribution to your employer’s success. So whether you want to work as a financier, accountant, marketer, administrator, HR manager, or in any other role, this course provides the perfect opportunity to enhance your skills. As well as learning about business and management through lectures and seminars, you will work with local employers to gain hands-on experience of the real world of business. This will build your experience, help you to generate fresh knowledge, and give you a ready-made contacts book by the time you graduate. The course follows a broad structure. Course Description If you’re committed to making a difference to the lives of children and young people, our courses in Early Childhood Studies are the perfect foundation for your career. They are designed specifically for people who wish to pursue a career in Early Years care, or who are already working in that sector. So if you know that working with young people is your passion, this is the course for you. The course includes modules in the following areas in the first year: - Maths, Science and the Child - Language, Literacy and the Child - Play and Learning - Learning and Development - Professional Practice and the Workplace - Applied Social Science The second year covers: - Early Years Curriculum - Professional Practice - Regulatory and Legislative Framework for Early Years Services - Working with Children and Families - Independent Study - Special Study In the course of your studies, you will complete two work placements that give you a valuable insight into how the sector works, and enhance your employability. In your second year, you will also complete a research project in a subject of your choice. Teaching and Assessment There are no examinations on this course, and each module is assessed by means of assignments. We offer you comprehensive study skills support throughout your time at College, to help maximise your chances of success. Teaching sessions take the form of short lectures, supervised discussions, small group work and presentations. Progression Opportunities On successful completion of the FdA course you may be able to progress to the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies or the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Management degree (progression route subject to approval), delivered at Somerset College. You could also apply to Plymouth University to join the final year of the BA (Hons) Education Studies degree. Career Progression The Foundation Degree can lead to employment in family support and project working in a range of Early Years settings. You could also start a career as a children’s centre worker, home/school liaison worker, early years worker, primary school worker or family advice liaison worker. Our graduates have also progressed to teacher training at primary level. Entry Requirements Applicants for the Foundation Degree require a Level 3 qualification. This typically includes AS/A2 Levels (minimum 160 points include 80 at A2), a CACHE or BTEC National Diploma, Access Certificate and NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject. Candidates are also required to have a minimum of Grade C in English Language and Mathematics. Within the School of Art and Design at Somerset College we pursue the intelligent development of visual communication. Students learn the invisible language of form, composition, balance, structure, rhythm and hierarchy coupled with the very visible language of communication. The aim of the course is to help you develop the creative skills needed to achieve success in your future career. With this in mind, the course explores how ideas are communicated through language, images and messages. It equips you with the understanding and skills to operate effectively within the fast-moving and stimulating design sector. By studying on this course, you will develop and establish: - A broad range of skills across the disciplines of graphic media and communication with disciplines which include graphic design, screen based design, moving image and sound, Illustration and photography. - A professional understanding of the strength and usage of visual communication. - A detailed understanding of industry-standard equipment and software. - An understanding of how to evaluate a client’s needs and respond successfully to them. - Experience of working as part of a professional team, gained through group projects and work placements, and through entering national and international design competitions. - Your own visual signature, enabling you to generate and express your personal ideas and beliefs. Teaching and Assessment Teaching takes place within the School of Art and Design utilising a range of purpose-built media and design studios. Assessment is based on 100% coursework and we undertake continuous modular assessment. Studio-based assignments are augmented by lectures, seminars and workshops throughout the year. Progression Opportunities After successfully competing the FdA you can progress on to the BA (Hons) Graphic Media and Communication top-up year at Somerset College. That’s exactly what our graduates have gone on to achieve, and with this course under your belt, there’s every chance for you to follow suit. This unique programme will give you: - An in-depth understanding of the media make-up industry. - Insight into the role of make-up artists in relation to stage, TV and film, fashion editorial and promotional shoots. - The skills and creative flair to use make-up to express emotions, transform faces and portray character. - The technical and artistic skills for complete make-up transformations. - The research skills required to ensure the quality and accuracy of character portrayal. - Skills in the art of hair work, character development, body painting, postiche (wig-making) and prosthetics. - A comprehensive portfolio of work to show prospective employers. - The opportunity to undertake work-based learning and live projects in the media world. You will also attend lectures and workshops and develop your research skills in an area of particular interest to you. Students are encouraged to specialise in a particular make-up discipline and develop their skills in that area. Course Description Play your part in the future of global communications by studying for a Foundation Degree or HNC in Electronic Systems. This course equips you with all the skills needed to ensure you are at the cutting edge of technology in both electronics and communications. We’ve designed our Foundation Degree to prepare you for a career in both the design and operation elements of the industry. That means you’ll be working on practical projects alongside your theoretical learning, to ensure you develop the right aptitudes for whatever job you choose. The course modules will include: - Mathematics - Electrical Principles 1 - Analogue Electronics - Instrumentation and Measurement - Digital Electronics - Engineering Design - Microprocessor Systems - Quality Assurance - Instrumentation and Control - Business and Finance - Professional Practice and the Workplace - Internet Technologies and Security - Project - Network Technologies In addition, you will take part in a work placement as part of the course, giving you real-world experience of your chosen sector that will enhance your employability. Teaching and Assessment You will be taught and supported by highly experienced and dedicated tutors and gain plenty of hands on experience in our excellent labs and workshops. Assessments will be either by assignment, examination or presentations. You will be required to undertake projects both as a member of working groups and as an individual. All such activities are supported by training in the application and use of computers. A feature of the course is the use of course assessment where each module is assessed by the course teaching team using assignments, case studies, presentations and examinations. There is also an assessed compulsory period of work experience in the first year. Progression Opportunities Alternatively, if you want to continue studying, you may apply to progress to the BSc (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree at Plymouth University. Please note that there is a deadline for progression applications and places may be subject to availability. Career Progression With a Foundation Degree under your belt, you could work as an electronics engineer or professional industry manager. Entry Requirements To apply for this course, you require a relevant Level 3 Extended Diploma (PPP) or Advanced New Diploma (120 points minimum), or AS/A2 Levels (minimum 120 points including 80 points at A2). Alternatively, you may enter the programme with an NVQ Level 3 or CGLI Level 3 Advanced Diploma or Access Certificate. Students are also required to possess a minimum of Grade C in GCSE English Language and Maths. Entry requirements for the HNC are a BTEC National qualification in a relevant subject area or at least one A level and appropriate GCSE at grade C or above. Applicants should be aged 18 or above. Mature students who do not meet these formal entry requirements are welcome to apply, if they can evidence their interest in the field of study. [-]
