Languages at EDC Paris BS

The “English Track” program

The “English track” curriculum is open to students having a good language level – starting in the 1st year.

It enables students to follow all of their courses in English. A good language level is required to qualify, but it is not necessary to be bilingual. EDC Paris BS has designed its own language learning method, which allows for fast visible results.

Culture and civilization department

Department of Culture & civilizations

The study of two foreign languages is required. English is the first foreign language studied by all students. The choice of the second language is optional. Students may choose between German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French (as a foreign language), Italian and Portuguese. Whenever the quota of ten students to open a class is not reached, students have the possibility of following courses in a partner school – this is the case, for example, for Dutch, Hebrew, and Russian.

The goal of language teaching is to enable students to improve their language skills, to enhance their international qualifications and boost their employability.

A language placement test for English and Spanish (the most popular second language choice) is held at the beginning of the first year. Teachings are thus based on level groups tailored to the needs and motivations of the students. Course contents are in conformity with the Common European Framework of References for languages.

The first two years consist mainly in the intensive study of general linguistic and business vocabulary skills in order to better prepare students for their 3rd-year study abroad program. For the students who remain in Paris for their 3rd year, language courses are held only during the first semester and are focused on the skills needed to find a job or an internship.

Language assessments take place regularly during the course of studies. In order to have an objective view of the progress made by the students, they are required to sit for the TOEFL that assesses a B2 level in the Common European Framework of References for languages. It was decided to have all students sit for this exam as it confers an official certification of the students’ level in English, without a limited administrative validity. Moreover, our international partners most often require a formal independent valuation of a student’s language skills. It also gives a realistic view of the English level of students at the end of their second year and the measure of the work that still needs to be accomplished.

Finally, the fourth year is dedicated to the preparation of the TOEIC exam. Students in Spanish and German also benefit from intensive training for the WiDaF exam and the Spanish foreign language degree exam (DELE).

Entrepreneurial approach

The student entrepreneur track

The “Entrepreneurial-Student” Track is aimed at those who feel entrepreneurial and have the will to create a company. This track can be chosen at any time during the course of studies as it allows the flexibility needed by the ‘apprentice-entrepreneur’ to meet the various obligations inherent to his/her project.

The selected students will benefit from numerous support arrangements provided by referring partners, such as EDC Capital for example.
